Hello Fellow Americans,
I am a social liberal...I think I am more socially liberal than most liberals...I firmly support gay marriage, I am pro-choice, recognize that global warming is a serious issue and think that we need some sort of non-profit based socialized health care system. I try to fight any type of hate that I see. Most of these issues are simply a matter of very basic civil rights and should be embraced by all reasonable people regardless of political affiliation.
But I can be silent no more about what I think is an even more important issue than the ones just mentioned. My fiscally conservative side is amazed at how many of my liberal friends - who are progressive thinkers - are so willing to hand over all of their liberties and tax money to a government that, time and time again, does not seem to have our interests at heart.
Regardless of your beliefs...we could very well be headed straight for a massive financial collapse...
In the next few years, due to reckless government spending, waste, borrowing and money printing, inflation will rise.
As a result, housing market and stock market values could drop drastically.
The value of the dollar could plummet...
And then US would be in big trouble...the type of trouble that would make the last financial collapse look like a walk in the park...
And if our economy collapses, then none of the politician's promises will be kept. And when people are deprived of basic necessities they become very uncivil.
A government that does not have our interests at heart, combined with a media not interested in digging for the truth, is a disastrous combination.
Our leaders seem to always be more concerned with propping up the current administration than using their expertise to inform people. In other words cheerleading overshadows leading and teaching. Experts are appointed and instead of using their knowledge to steer us in the right direction, they cheerlead for the administration that hired them.
Most of us work the first 5 to 6 months of the year for the government. They waste and spend this tax money with no accountability and no budget. Our national debt is currently close to $20 trillion dollars. The government collects $2 trillion yearly in taxes. That means our nation has a 10 to 1 debt to income ratio. Try going to a bank and getting a loan with this debt to income ratio. They will look at you like you are insane.
If interest rates start to rise, what little money the government uses to pay down the debt...will pay off less debt because the interest will be higher. A lot of our government debt is renegotiated on a short term basis...which means this borrowed money will fall victim to the increasing rates...just as people who took adjustable rate mortgages ran into trouble when the rates rose quickly. People went under water with no hope of ever paying back their debt...just as the US government potentially could...
Therefore I cannot understand anyone who wants to pay more taxes...this money is wasted...there are no facts to suggest that the more taxes they collect will somehow result in a more fiscally sound environment. Look at California where I live. We have some of the highest tax rates in the nation and California is on the verge of bankruptcy...
For those of you who don't like corporations, consider the idea that our government is the most corrupt corporation of all...they spend with no accountability and don't seem to have to produce any results at all. If a business employed the same tactics and strategies as the US government, they would be out of business in a matter of weeks...
Our economic situation is much more dire than anyone is letting on. Various factors - debt, spending, money printing, inflated stock and housing markets, inflation and rising rates, massive unemployment and decreasing tax revenue - are just a few of the factors stacked precariously like a house of cards against us - and one single event could be the catalyst that brings it all crumbling down. Despite many people having a false sense of security regarding the contrary, the US is unfortunately not bankruptcy proof.
My intention is not to start a big political debate...or to scare anyone...this is more of a warning for people to really dig for actual information instead of listening to people who cheerlead...
I don't want to see people get hurt...
We are headed for something bad and no one wants to sound the alarm...
We need to start demanding more fiscal accountability from our leaders.
Please keep your eyes open and question the tidal wave of distorted information given to us on a daily basis...
Also think about what you can do to protect whatever savings you've been able to scrape together in this horrible economy...
This is the One Man Revolution...signing off...
